Dear Nighthawk Coaches,

The NOVA athletic department wanted to pass along a few friendly reminders to help you and your prospective student-athletes, along with current student-athletes.

All a student-athlete at NOVA you must be enrolled in a minimum 12 credit hours during their respective season. If you are not in 12 or more credit hours you are not eligible for participation. Each course in the student-athlete's full-time class schedule (12 credits) must START prior to the end of the regular season.

NOVA adheres to the eligibility standards established by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Before the first day of practice, all student-athletes must bring a copy of their latest physical. No student-athlete is allowed to participate in practice or a workout without a physical.

A physical must done by a medical professional. A copy of the physical form is located in the student-athlete affidavit.

Prior to their participation in your selected sport, each student-athlete must be prepared to submit the student-athlete affidavit to the NOVA Athletic Office (or you as the head coach). It is very important that your student-athletes read and understand each item. Forms that need to be signed and returned are marked. If your student-athlete is under 18 years of age, please make sure a parent or legal guardian signs the forms as well. Remember, a student-athlete can not participate until each item is on file in the Athletic Office.

A copy of a student-athlete's official high school transcript that certifies student has graduated from a standard U.S. high school must also be turned into Director of Athletics Steve Mrowka prior to the start of your season. Home school students need to contact the athletic office for verification procedures. For GED students a copy of the official results is required. OFFICIAL college transcripts from any other college(s) attended must also be given to Athletic Director.

Students who have graduated from a foreign high school or are on an I-20 Visa must do the following:

High school transcript MUST be translated to English (if applicable) by a professional translation service and document graduation date. Google Translate is NOT an acceptable interpretation document. Suggested provider for translation service is World Education Services (www.WES.org).

Nearly 40 student-athletes have transferred to four-year schools to continue their playing careers at NCAA and NAIA insititutions. If you have any questions about your student-athlete moving on to a four-year school we have provided links below from the NCAA, NAIA and USCAA.

As coaches at NOVA you are held to a high standard, and we expect all coaches to keep those high standards in your use of social media. Whether it is your personal or team account we want you to be professional at all times. Our expectations are laid out in the social media guidelines.

Please contact Director of Athletics Steve Mrowka (smrowka@nvcc.edu) or if you have any other questions.
