PROSPECTIVE STUDENT-ATHLETE INFORMATION

Dear Future Nighthawks,

Thank you for your interest in becoming a NOVA Nighthawk. The Nighthawks have won five NJCAA Region 20 Championships since 2012.

To help NOVA win its next region championship, and add more banners inside Ernst Gymnasium here is some helpful information for you as you continue your athletic career.

As a student-athlete at NOVA, you must be enrolled in a minimum 12 credit hours during your respective season. If you are not in 12 or more credit hours you are not eligible for participation. Each course in the student-athlete's full-time class schedule (12 credits) must START prior to the end of the regular season.

NOVA adheres to the eligibility standards established by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Prior to your participation in your selected sport, each of you must be prepared to submit the student-athlete affidavit to the NOVA Athletic Office (or head coach). It is very important that you read and understand each item. Forms that need to be signed and returned are marked. If you are under 18 years of age, please make sure a parent or legal guardian signs the forms as well. Remember, you can not participate until each item is on file in the Athletic Office.

Before your first day of practice each student-athlete must have physical completed by a medical professional. A copy of the physical form is located in the student-athlete affidavit.

A copy of student-athlete's official high school transcript that certifies student has graduated from a standard U.S. high school must also be turned into Director of Athletics Steve Mrowka prior to the start of your season. Home school students need to contact the athletic office for verification procedures. For GED students a copy of the official results is required. OFFICIAL college transcripts from any other college(s) attended must also be given to Athletic Director.

Students who have graduated from a foreign high school or are on an I-20 Visa must do the following:

High school transcript MUST be translated to English (if applicable) by a professional translation service and document graduation date. Google Translate is NOT an acceptable interpretation document. Suggested provider for translation service is World Education Services (www.WES.org).

Please contact Director of Athletics Steve Mrowka (smrowka@nvcc.edu) or the head coach of your intended sport if you have any other questions.

Housing Options:
NOVA does not provide on campus housing; however, the college features a website (housing.nvcc.edu) tool to assist students in locating housing options.
