ANNANDALE – Northern Virginia Community College hockey team defenseman Lucas Russell has been named to the 2018 EECHA All-Star team.
EECHA All-Star weekend is scheduled to begin Friday at 12:15 p.m. inside Fred Rust Ice Arena, and it concludes Sunday afternoon.
This season in 12 games, Russell scored eight goals and gave seven assists to lead the Nighthawks in both offensive categories. In his two seasons with NOVA, Russell has scored 24 goals and has dished 21 assists.
The Leesburg, Va., native becomes just the third Nighthawk student-athlete to be named to the EECHA All-Star team. Russell is also just one of 20 student-athletes to earn an all-star selection this season.
"Lucas bought into our system toward the end of this year and started to see a bigger picture," said head coach Barrett Haga. "In the beginning, he was trying to take it coast to coast, but now he sees the entire ice, the passing game, and the ability to play two-way defense. This transition impressed the selection committee, and he made the team."
