ANNANDALE – The Northern Virginia Community College hockey team has announced tryout a date for the 2018-19 season. Prospective student-athlete tryouts are set for Wednesday, Sept. 5 beginning at 8 p.m. inside Prince William Ice Arena.
NOVA students interested in playing hockey for the Nighthawks must register prior to the tryouts in September. Those who make the team must participate in a mandatory team retreat Sept. 8.
All hockey student-athletes will be required to pay a participation and fundraising fee for the 2018-19 season. The fee amount for new student-athletes is $1250, while returnee dues are $975. New goalies, meanwhile, will pay $700 and returners are $600. A convenience fee will be assessed for online payments.
Student-athletes will not be able to tryout unless season dues are paid and a physical is completed prior to Sept. 5. No student-athlete is allowed to tryout unless the recruiting form and student athlete form are completed.
Student-athletes will provide their own skates, sticks and masks, but game sweaters, practice sweaters, game transportation, hotels and practice ice are paid for by NOVA.
Participation is limited to students at NOVA, and students are encouraged to be enrolled fulltime 12 or more credit hours per term. At a minimum, American Collegiate Hockey Association guidelines require nine credit hours during each term of participation. This means you must take and pass at least nine credit hours each semester and maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA. Currently enrolled NOVA students must have a cumulative 2.0 GPA to be eligible.
All checks can be made out to NOVA with "Hockey" in the memo line, and please send checks and paperwork to.
