ANNANDALE – The Northern Virginia Community College hockey team will have a new home in the Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League for the upcoming 2019-20 season that was announced Monday.
The Nighthawks old opponents in the EECHA are all joining the ACCHL and are forming the ACHA M3 Conference within their new league. Those teams that formed the Colonial and Atlantic conference are making the new conference into three-four team divisions.
Those divisions will be based on balanced quantity of teams, along with geography and rivalries. The new names for the divisions will take the names of Patriot Division and Virginia/Carolina Division.
The Virginia/Carolina Division, twice at home and twice on the road. The Patriot Division, which is the expected division for the Nighthawks and will play their opponents twice on a home and home basis.
“We are thrilled to join the ACCHL next season,” Director of Athletics Steve Mrowka said. “This is a big time league with several top tier four-year schools in the league. We will also see our familiar foes as well.”
A season ago, NOVA finished with an 8-10-1 record and earned a berth to the postseason tournament for the fourth straight season.
