ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Frank Agyemang scored a team-best 19 points, while Drew Jackson had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lift the Northern Virginia Community College men's basketball team to an 83-80 victory over NJCAA Region 20 foe CCBC Dundalk Saturday afternoon.
The Nighthawks see their season mark go to 1-2 and return to the floor Sunday when they play Montgomery at 5 p.m.
Early in the contest it was a back and forth affair as neither club had a lead larger than three in the first twelve and a half minutes. The contest was tied four times in the early goings as well, before the Lions built a 12-point advantage midway through opening 20 minutes.
The Nighthawks could not get any closer than eight points at the break, as CCBC Dundalk led 48-40 at intermission.
During second half play, NOVA roared back and tied the game for a fifth time after Tavaris James sank a jumper. The Nighthawks though were not able to build on the tie, and the Lions retook the lead moments later.
With 8:34 left in the contest a Jackson free throw put the Nighthawks on top for the first time since the early part of the game and then Maurice Gentry put down back-to-back three's to push the Nighthawks lead to 70-63
After NOVA's quick, but meaningful 7-0 run, the Nighthawks would not lose the lead or allow the Lions to tie the game up again.
