ANNANDALE – Frank Agyemang scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to help the Northern Virginia Community College men's basketball team to a 104-86 victory over third ranked Sandhills Sunday afternoon.
The Nighthawks got back to .500 at 3-3 and return to action Tuesday, Nov. 28 against Patrick Henry inside Ernst Gymnasium.
Early in the game the Flyers jumped on top of NOVA, but a Tavaris James layup tied the contest at 10. However, Sandhills quickly went back up by six before a pair of Trevaun Hyatt free throws tied the game back up at 18.
Josh Rodgers gave the Nighthawks their first lead, but the Flyers tied it back up moments later at 20 all. Then Michael Elliott drained a three for NOVA, which gave the Nighthawks the advantage for good.
With two and a half minutes left in the first half an Agyemang dunk put the Nighthawks up by 17 and then the Nighthawks finished opening period on an 8-3 run.
Hyatt scored on an old fashion three-point play to give NOVA a 32-point advantage and then the defense kept the Flyers off of the scoreboard for just over two minutes. During that time, the Nighthawks were able to go up by 37 (83-46), which was their largest lead of the day.
For the game, NOVA used its size and speed to outscore the Flyers 62-40 in the paint and 22-6 on the fast break.
