Big second half lifts Nighthawks

BEL AIR, Md. – Frank Agyemang scored a game-high 19 points off the bench, while Muhammed Saadeldeen continued his hot streak with 17 to help give the Northern Virginia Community College men's basketball team a 73-69 victory at Harford.

The Nighthawks improve their record to 10-8 and are back in action Thursday against NJCAA Region 20 Division II foe Garrett at 6:30 p.m. The game against the Lakers will be broadcast live on Facebook.com/NOVANighthawks.

The Owls scored first and held the lead for the entire opening half, but NOVA was able to get within a point with nine seconds left when Drew Jackson buried a jumper.

Less than two minutes into the second period, Agyemang drained a three and then four seconds later he gave the Nighthawks their first lead the of the day on a free throw.

Following an Owls turnover, Saadeldeen scored down low to push the NOVA lead to 34-31. The Nighthawks, however, could not add to the advantage, as Harford went responded with a 6-0 run.  

Over the next 15 minutes, neither team could grab a lead larger than three until Agyemang hit two free throws to push the NOVA lead to five (72-67).

The Owls though would hit a layup moments later to get back within a bucket, but with less than a second remaining Jackson, who scored nine points on the day was able to ice the game with a free throw.
