Cougars on fire in second half

NORTH EAST, Md. – Robert Tartt scored a team-high 15 points and pulled down eight rebounds, but it was not enough for the Northern Virginia Community College men's basketball team, who fell 70-54 to Frederick Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region 20 Division II Tournament.

The Nighthawks finish up the 2018-19 season 14-12, while the Cougars move on to the semifinals Saturday evening.

Fifth seeded NOVA jumped out on top 6-0, as Tartt scored all six points, but fourth seed FCC responded with an 18-4 run to lead 18-10 with seven and a half minutes to go in the opening period.

The Nighthawks, however were able to respond and got within a point (26-25) going into the locker room.

Early in the second half, NOVA tied the game up at 27, which continued a 9-1 swing from the first 20 minutes, but the momentum shift wouldn't continue. The Cougars quickly regained the advantage and never let up, as they shot 17-for-31 from the field the rest of the way.
