HERNDON -- Maxwell Frazier scored the first goal for the Northern Virginia Community College lacrosse team Thursday afternoon, but CCBC Essex was a winner in the Region 20 contest 20-3 at Word of Grace.
The Nighthawks finish the season 1-7, while the nationally recognized Knights improve their mark to 3-7.
Over a nine-minute time frame, CCBC Essex scored four straight goals in the opening quarter, but Frazier was able to slam home a tally with 2:31 left in the period to bring the game within three scores going into the second stanza.
However, the Knights would take control of the contest, as they scored 12 straight goals before Joseph Germano put a shot into the back of the net with nine seconds left in the third quarter to end the Essex run.
In the final frame, Germano scored his second goal of the day to make it 16-3 with 11:40 to play. The Knights then put the finishing touches on the game, as they scored four unanswered goals during the final ten and a half minutes.
Frazier and Germano led the Nighthawks with seven shots on the day to pace the offense. Christopher Worrell, meanwhile, finished the day with a team-high three caused turnovers to help the NOVA defense.
