ANNANDALE – Northern Virginia Community College Director of Athletics Steve Mrowka has announced the suspension of the Nighthawks lacrosse program for the 2019 season.
“A great deal of thought went in to this decision and it’s not one we take lightly. But, at this time we feel it is in our best interest to cancel the upcoming season,” Mrowka said.
The lacrosse program began prior to NOVA joining the NJCAA in 2012, and in 2015 the Nighthawks advanced to the NJCAA Region 20 semifinals where they fell to CCBC Essex.
During the six years of the program being in the NJCAA ranks, the Nighthawks had eight All-Region 20 nods, and had 16 former student-athletes play at four-year schools, including two NCAA Division I transfers.
“We have every intention of bringing the program back for the 2020 season, and at that time we hope to have an on-campus field that we will be able to play and practice on. We’ll keep the community updated as we move forward.”
