Road swing continues

ANNANDALE – Fresh off its 6-1 victory over Patrick Henry over the weekend, the Northern Virginia Community College soccer team looks to continue the momentum Thursday and Saturday for two NJCAA Region 20 battles.

The Nighthawks, who are 3-1-0, travel to Chesapeake and conclude the week Saturday at Anne Arundel.

Recap the victory
Cristian Fuentes scored twice, while four other Nighthawks tallied goals to help NOVA a 6-1 win. The lone goal given up by the Nighthawks was on a penalty kick in 34th minute and it was just one of four shots allowed by the stout defense.

Defense wins championships
The back row for NOVA has allowed just 1.30 goals per game and 28 shots, 19 of which landed on goal. The Nighthawks goalies have let mere five shots past them and picked up one shutout this season.

Scoring for the Nighthawks
Fuentes leads NOVA in scoring with three goals, while Andrew Bailey and Yazid Ajape each have a pair tallies. Gabriel Rickmann, meanwhile, has two assists – giving him four over his career at NOVA.

Returning home
NOVA won't return home until Sept. 26 when it hosts Prince George's. The Nighthawks are then home for three of their next four matches.

Glancing at Chesapeake
The Skipjacks won the first match of the season over Penn State York, but have dropped their last three. Chesapeake has not scored over its last three games and have been shutout 26-0. This is the first match up between the Nighthawks and Skipjacks.

A quick look at AACC
The Riverhawks are 2-2-0 in 2017 with wins over Chesapeake and Cecil and play at Howard before welcoming the Nighthawks. A season ago, NOVA and AACC went into overtime with the Riverhawks escaping with a 4-3 win.
