WYE MILLS, Md. -- Yazid Ajape scored at the 12:44 mark for the Northern Virginia Community College soccer team and eight other Nighthawks hit the back of the net to help NOVA to a 14-0 NJCAA Region 20 victory over Chesapeake Thursday afternoon.
The Nighthawks improve to 4-1-0 this season and return to the pitch Saturday when they travel to Anne Arundel for a noon kickoff.
Everton Bailey then made it 3-0 as he scored two quick goals for NOVA in the 14th and 15th minute of action. The Nighthawks added six more goals in the first half to take a 10-0 lead into intermission.
In second half play, NOVA scored its 11th goal of the afternoon off of the foot of Santiago Diez and 10 minutes later Ibrahim Bangura hit the 12th goal. With time running down, Ahmed Dahir hit the back of the net twice to finish out the scoring for the Nighthawks.
Joshua Fleming was between the posts for NOVA Thursday afternoon, and picked up the second shutout of the season for the Nighthawks and his first intercollegiate victory.
The 14 goals by the Nighthawks were the most in program history and the 25 goals in 2017 has surpassed last seasons total of 24.
