Nighthawks ranked in poll for first time

ANNANDALE – Going into the postseason, the Northern Virginia Community College soccer team is ranked No. 10 in the latest NJCAA Top 10 Poll.

The Nighthawks, who are 11-2-0 this season were receiving votes last week, and after defeating Montgomery 2-0 Friday jumped into the top 10 for the first time in program history. The victory over the Raptors was the fifth straight win for NOVA.

Heading into the Region 20 Division III tournament, the Nighthawks are the No.1 seed and play Montgomery Friday at 6 p.m. in Arnold, Md. The winner of Friday's match advances to the championship game Sunday afternoon.

It will be the third time in as many years the Nighthawks and Raptors have met in the semifinals of the region tournament.

NOVA and third seeded Prince George's are the only two clubs from Region 20 ranked in the top 10, while Montgomery is receiving votes.
