Nighthawks one under .500

ROCKVILLE, Md. –Suzy Brooks and Chyann Hooker each had four hits to help lead the Northern Virginia Community College softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Region 20 foe Montgomery Monday afternoon.

The Nighthawks, who won 15-2 and 12-0, are now 4-5 and return to action Saturday, April 22 when they host Cecil for a twinbill. 

Game One 

NOVA scored five runs in the first inning en route to the 15-2 win over the Raptors as Hooker knocked in a game-high four RBIs.

Brooks, meanwhile, reached safely in all four plate appearances as she was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Brooks picked up her first RBI in the first frame and added another one in the fifth.

In the circle for Nighthawks was Kayla Farbaugh, who pitched a five-inning complete game. Farbaugh fanned seven, scattered three hits to move her season record to 3-0.

Game Two

In the nightcap, Brooks, Nicole May and Allison Pitts each had first inning RBIs to give NOVA an early 3-0 lead. An inning later, Hooker, Chantal Gruber and Brooks added three more runs for the Nighthawks as they led 6-0 after two.

After a quiet third inning, the Nighthawks added a run in the fourth on Gruber's second RBI of the afternoon. Then in the fifth, NOVA exploded for five runs -- with two of the runs coming off of Gruber's single to left field.

Brooks took the ball in the second game, as she went the distanced and gave up just one hit and struck out three for her first win of the season.
