Hooker, Gruber named All-American

ANNANDALE – Northern Virginia Community College softball infielders Chyann Hooker and Chantal Gruber were named All-American Tuesday by Fastpitch News. Hooker was a first team selection and Gruber took home an honorable mention nod.

Hooker and Gruber become the first postseason All-America selections in Nighthawk athletics history.

“This is a huge honor for Chyann and Chantal,” said head coach Steve Mrowka. “To become an All-American is a big accomplishment and to be the first ones at NOVA will be something we will always remember.”  

NOVA, who finished their fourth season on the field was led by Hooker and Gruber at the plate. Hooker, a Stafford, Va., native hit .682 during her sophomore year with five doubles, a home run and 10 RBIs.

Gruber, meanwhile, hit .500 with five extra base hits that also included two triples. The Fredericksburg, Va., native also scored seven times and knocked in five runs in her second season with the Nighthawks.

Of the 54 NJCAA FPN All-Americans, 10 came from NJCAA Region 20 with three earning a first team selection.
