ANNANDALE – Natasha Porter had a chance at the buzzer to win the game, but her shot missed the mark and the contest went into overtime where Bryant and Stratton came away with the 81-66 victory Wednesday evening
The Nighthawks fall to 1-1 on the season and return to the floor Saturday against Frederick in the Montgomery Tipoff Classic.
NOVA scored the games first 10 points, and it looked as though the Nighthawks would cruise past the instate foe. The lead, however, would slowly disappear, as BC tied the game for the first time early in the second quarter.
Near the end of the opening half, the Bobcats took a lead of nine at 38-29 where the score would remain when the teams went into the locker room.
After BSC grabbed an 11-point lead early in the second half, the Nighthawks charged back and got within five on a Tamara Moore bucket. That would be as close as NOVA got in the third quarter as the Bobcats led by six after 30 minutes
Early in the final frame Lana Zjajo struck from deep to give the Nighthawks their first lead since the first half. Then towards the of the game with ice in her veins Zjajo nailed a pair of free throws to extend the Nighthawks advantage to five.
After BSC tied the game with 25 seconds left, Taylor Lynch gave the Nighthawks a 65-63 lead. However, on the next trip down the floor, the Bobcats knotted things up again to force overtime.
In the extra five minutes, NOVA ran out of gas as BSC finished the contest on a 16-1 run.
