ROCKVILLE, Md. – Jalita Montgomery scored 24 points to lead the Northern Virginia Community College women's basketball team, but it was not enough for the Nighthawks as they fell 69-48 to Frederick Saturday afternoon.
NOVA drops its season mark to 1-2 this year and returns to action Sunday when it plays Montgomery at 3 p.m.
After one quarter the Nighthawks trailed by just three after forcing the Cougars into nine turnovers. NOVA was able to pick up six steals in the opening frame and connected on 7-of-10 from the line.
During second quarter play, the Nighthawks defense continued to harass the Cougars, as FCC shot 3-for-17 from the floor and was 2-of-10 from charity stripe. The Cougars also had five unforced turnovers, which led to a 31-30 Nighthawks advantage.
In second half action, NOVA was outscored 39-17 as the Nighthawks made just eight shots from the floor and committed 10 turnovers.
