Porter first to score 40 points in NOVA history

ANNANDALE – Natasha Porter scored a school record 40 points to go along with 11 steals and nine rebounds to help push the Northern Virginia Community College women's basketball team to a 115-17 victory over Patrick Henry Tuesday night inside Ernst Gymnasium.

The Nighthawks see their season mark go to 3-3 and they return to the floor Friday in the Charm City Classic.

NOVA was dominate early, as the defense shutout PHC through the games first 13 minutes and 10 seconds. In that stretch of time the Nighthawks built a 36-0 advantage, which was capped off on a Tiya Anderson layup.

After PHC's bucket, the NOVA defense stepped up again and didn't not allow PHC to score again until there was 2:14 left in the half. At the break, the Nighthawks went into the locker room leading 45-4 behind a combined 24 points from Jalita Montgomery and Porter.

During late third period action, Porter scored four of her 20 points in the quarter, while Bilan Hajinur and Montgomery added a bucket a piece to put the Nighthawks on top 76-9.

In the final quarter of play the Nighthawks used a 39-8 run that was led by Montgomery, who scored 15 of her 31 points on the day.  Porter, meanwhile, tickled the twine for 10 points and added three steals.

For the dominate Nighthawks, Hajinur had her first career double-double as the Chantilly, native finished the contest with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
