ANNANDALE – Mia Buchanon scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Northern Virginia Community College women's basketball team, but Harford was victorious 114-42 in the season opener for both teams.
The Nighthawks, who begin the season 0-1 return to the court Wednesday, Nov. 7 at Chesapeake.
The Owls jumped on top 4-0 before Ciarra Owen scored NOVA's first points of the season a minute into the contest. The Nighthawks, however, could not continue with the momentum, as the Harford responded with a 9-1 run to take 13-3 lead.
Early in the second period, Natasha Porter drained a three to make it a nine-point game (26-15), as she scored five points on the night. However, over the next six minutes the Nighthawks were held scoreless, as the Owls built a 42-15 advantage.
During second half action the NOVA offense continued to struggled as Harford outscored the Nighthawks 63-24. Taylor Lynch led the NOVA offense during the second 20 minutes, as she tickled the twine for nine points.
On the glass for the Nighthawks was Lynch, who pulled down nine rebounds, while Owen had seven boards.
