WYE MILLS, Md. – Natasha Porter scored a season-high 25 points to help the Northern Virginia Community College women's basketball team, but Chesapeake used a dominate second and third period to down the Nighthawks 90-64 Wednesday evening.
The Nighthawks fall to 0-2 this season and they are back in action at instate foe Bryant and Stratton Saturday afternoon.
During first period action, NOVA used steady shooting to take a 19-17 advantage into the second quarter. The Nighthawks 46 percent from the floor and Alexis Hill nailed both of her shots from deep to lead the squad.
Fatigue, however, showed its ugly head, as the Skipjacks outscored NOVA 52-23 during the second and third stanzas. The Nighthawks shot just 7-of-33 during the those quarters, while CC was 14-for-37 and 20-of-26 from the free throw line.
Porter helped the Nighthawks find their rhythm during the fourth period as she scored 15 of the teams 22 points, but NOVA was in too big of a hole to climb out of.
