NORTH EAST, Md. – Nahdeyah Quarles scored a team-high 14 points, but the Northern Virginia Community College women's basketball team fell in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region 20 Division II Tournament 76-35 to Chesapeake.
The 2018-19 season comes to a close for the Nighthawks, as they finished the year with a 10-14 mark.
NOVA had a chance early to take a lead, but it missed three point-blank shots and a pair free throws. Following a Quarles layup, the Nighthawks cold shooting continued, as they missed five straight shots to start the game 1-for-9 from the field.
After the Skipjacks hit a double-digit lead with four minutes left in the opening period, NOVA could not climb out of the hole. Chesapeake would build its biggest advantage of 41 late in the contest.
Chesapeake moves on to the Region 20 semifinals to play Montgomery Saturday afternoon.
