KEYSER, W.Va. – The Northern Virginia Community College volleyball team pushed Potomac State in the first two sets, but could not get over the hump as the Nighthawks fell in straight sets (25-27, 23-25, 16-25) to the Catamounts Thursday evening.
NOVA falls to 7-4 this season and returns to the floor Tuesday for an NJCAA Region 20 tilt against Hagerstown.
Star Mebane-Uriarte led the Nighthawks with seven kills, while Nikola Knapova and Lauren Havill combined for 12. For Knapova, she surpassed the 200 kill plateau to become the ninth NOVA volleyball student-athlete to crack the mark.
For the ninth time this season, Sarah Abisourour gave 20 or more assists in a match as she dished the ball 25 times Thursday night.
As a team, the Nighthawks had 23 unforced errors as they were called for nine ball handling and eight block errors, while hitting into four service mistakes and two reception errors.
