Volleyball splits first day in Greenville

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Northern Virginia Community College volleyball team smacked 57 kills Friday to help the Nighthawks split the opening day at the Pitt Community College Invitational. NOVA swept Surry (25-21, 25-21, 25-19) and was defeated by Spartanburg Methodist (16-25, 13-25, 12-25).

The Nighthawks are now 9-6 and return to action Saturday morning against Sandhills and at Pitt.

Nikola Knapova led NOVA with 15 kills, while Star Mebane-Uriarte and Lauren Havill finished the day with 13 and 10 kills respectively.  As a team, the Nighthawks had nine service aces, as Sarah Abisourour led the way with three.
