Volleyball wins one Saturday

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Star Mebane-Uriarte and Nikola Knapova each had 26 kills Saturday afternoon, but the Northern Virginia Community College volleyball team could only pick up one win as it dropped matches against Sandhills and host Pitt.

The Nighthawks defeated Patrick Henry in straight sets and sees their record go to 10-8 before hosting NJCAA Region 20 opponent Montgomery Tuesday evening. The match will be broadcast on Facebook Live.

To go along with her 26 kills, Mebane-Uriarte also had six solo blocks to help the NOVA defense. On the offensive side of the net, Sylvia Cedeno led the way with 54 digs, while Sarah Abisourour, had 96 of the teams 100 assists Saturday.

Smacking down kills for NOVA was Jessica Harris, who had 16, while Lauren Havill and Tiara Jones each had 11.
