ANNANDALE -- We have now reached the top five in the Northern Virginia Community College athletic department countdown of the 10 best moments of the 2016-17 athletics season. The list is comprised of individual and team highlights from the field of play.
The NOVA athletic department has selected Jewels Bonnette’s school record 22 kill performance against Harford as the No. 4 moment of the 2016-17 season. It was her second 20 kill total for the season and it broke the previous record of 20 set by Arianna Gore, Brigitte Weber and herself.
During the match against the Owls, Bonnette had seven kills through the first two sets before smacking down seven in the third stanza. In the third, the Sterling, Va., native hit .700 with no errors and would break the mark in the fifth set when she tallied four more kills.
For her career, Bonnette finished with 297 kills, which ranks fourth all-time at NOVA and her 408.5 points put her in sixth in the Nighthawks record book.
