COLUMBIA, Md. -- Bekah Jenne set a new career-high with 14 assists to help the Northern Virginia Community College volleyball team to a straight set victory over Howard (25-5, 25-17, 25-14) Thursday evening.
The Nighthawks, who have won five out of their last six improve to 8-3 and are back in action Monday, Oct. 1 at Hagerstown.
Early in the match, the Dragons were top 4-3, but following a Brittany Connatser kill to tie it at 4-4, NOVA would score the next 19 points. Newcomer Rachel Scott had 19 straight serves and had two of her five aces on the night, while Sarah Abisourour had five kills during the long run.
During second set action, the Nighthawks began the action on top 4-0 after three straight Howard attack errors and a kill by Deveis Wooten. The Dragons got their deficit down to three (9-6), but NOVA responded with an 8-4 swing. The run was capped off by Lauren Havill, who hammered down one of her four kills.
NOVA jumped on top 2-1 in the final set and would never lose the lead, as the Nighthawks would go up 17-11 later in the stanza. With the lead at six, Abisourour put icing on the match with three aces, while Connatser added a kill.
