RALEIGH, N.C. – Audrey Bartels came away with a career-high seven kills, but the Northern Virginia Community College volleyball team fell in four sets (25-22, 23-25, 21-25, 20-25) to Wake Tech Friday evening in non-region action.
The Nighthawks see their record go to 9-9 on the season and return to action Saturday against Wake Tech and Mid-Atlantic Christian
During opening set play, NOVA was led by Brittany Connatser, who had six kills, while the team hit an outstanding .294. The Nighthawks also used three service aces in the first stanza to grab the victory.
NOVA's offense struggled in the second set, as it hit .022. However, freshmen Deveis Wooten and Bartels held the hot hand as the duo combined to smack down six of the teams nine kills to pace the Nighthawks.
In the third and fourth contests, Wooten again helped lead the Nighthawks attack as she had 10 combined kills, which was part of her career-best 16 on the night. Bartels, meanwhile, added four kills during the final set, and helped the Nighthawks hit .211 during the closing stanza.
