STEVENSON, Md. – Kmaljeet Athwal finished 32nd in Saturday's 6-kilometer Shannon Henretty Invitational to help lead the Northern Virginia Community College cross country team at its second race of the season.
Athwal completed the race in 25 minutes, 40.51 seconds, while Felicia Koerner of Johns Hopkins won the race in 22:48.31. The Blue Jays had the top five runners and won the team title by 38 points over Messiah. The Nighthawks, meanwhile, did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score.
Ashlianne Shigley was the next NOVA runner to cross the line, as she finished 81st with a time of 29:11.35. Nearly two minutes behind Shigley was sophomore Berith Austin, who completed the race in 31:30.39
The Nighthawks next race is Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Hornet Harrier Invitational on the Kernstown Battlefield course.
