ANNANDALE – It will be an action-packed week for the Northern Virginia Community basketball and hockey teams. The Nighthawks begin the week Wednesday and it’s capped off with a Sunday morning hockey game against Liberty.

After a weekend off from the ice, NOVA spent Saturday volunteering with the National Park Service cleaning up Roosevelt Island. The Nighthawks also participated in a 5-kilometer race prior to volunteering with the NPS.
NOVA is on the road for one and returns back to friendly surroundings of Ernst Gymnasium Wednesday against Richard Bland.
The game against the Statesmen will be the fourth over the last four years with RBC taking the last three meetings. The last two games, the Statesmen won the by a combined three points, winning last season 81-79 and the previous season 81-80.
A pair of midweek games are on the docket for the Nighthawks this week, as Region 20 foe Baltimore City comes to town first, and then instate rival Bryant & Stratton comes to Ernst Gymnasium for a Thursday evening contest.
Kaitlyn Roberts was the leading for NOVA in its season opener against Prince George’s, while Brianna Rogers scored nine points and picked up a team-high seven steals in the loss.
