Nighthawks fall in overtime

LARGO, Md. – Playing in its second overtime game of the season, the Northern Virginia Community College men's basketball team came up short Tuesday evening at Prince George's 93-92 despite four in double figures.

NOVA trailed for the entire first half, and were down by as much as 10 midway through, but got within four (34-30) with 5:18 left on a pair of Joe Davis free throws. The Nighthawks though could not draw any closer, as they went into the locker room down 44-36.

Terrell Walker tied the game early in the second half, but NOVA was not able to take the lead until Joe Davis slammed the ball home. The Nighthawks weren't able to add advantage of the lead as PGCC jumped back on top.

Later in the half Andre McFadden drained a three to put NOVA on top 64-61 and then Michael Elliot put the Nighthawks up 66-61 when he hit a layup.

Davis then helped put NOVA up seven with just over two minutes left in the game, but with four seconds remaining the Owls sent the game to overtime.

During the extra time, the Nighthawks found themselves down 88-83, but NOVA found its rhythm and went on a 7-2 run that was capped off by Deontae Compton on a charity shot.

The Nighthawks weren't able to retake the lead, as both teams traded baskets over a 30 second span. The Owls hit the game-winning shot with three seconds left when Alex Morales hit the back end of two free throws.
