WYE MILLS, Md. – The Northern Virginia Community College men's basketball team got within one under two minutes to play, but Chesapeake escaped with the 76-72 victory in NJCAA Region 20 action.
The loss drops the Nighthawks to 2-4 on the year, and they return to action Thursday against in-state foe Lancaster at 6 p.m.
With 3:32 left in the game, NOVA was down eight (73-65), but over the next minute and a half it got the Skipjacks advantage down to one. Luke Jones drained a three to make it a 73-72 with 1:53 left on the clock.
The Nighthawks, however could overtake Chesapeake and were held scoreless for the remainder of the game. NOVA had its opportunities in the closing moments, but three turnovers did the Nighthawks in.
Overall, Tyland Crawford led the NOVA offense with a game-high 22 points, while Jones added 14 on 7-of-18 shooting.
