Nighthawks steam roll Roadrunners

ANNANDALE – Abdullahi Hussein scored a career-high 27 points and Luke Jones added 21 to push the Northern Virginia Community College men's basketball team to a 107-72 victory over Lancaster Thursday evening inside Ernst Gymnasium.

The Nighthawks inch closer to the .500 mark with the win and travel to Beaver County Saturday at 3 p.m.

Early in the game was a back and forth battle until Cameron Stowe tickled the twine from deep to give NOVA a 11-9 advantage. Stowe, who scored 16 points gave the Nighthawks the lead for good with his long range jumper at the 16:25 mark in the first half.

LCC, however was able to keep the game close until Hussein hit one of his four three's Thursday push NOVA up a 12 lead with 6:29 remaining. Nearly four minutes later, Hussein cleaned up the glass and put his offensive rebound back in to make it 53-35.

Then near halftime, Hussein, who had six offensive rebounds again put a missed Nighthawks shot away to give the team a 59-41 lead at the break.

Early in the second period, it was Jones turn to drill a shot from outside, as he gave NOVA its first 20 point cushion of the game. Later in the half the Nighthawks went up by 31 when Hussein scored down low.

Also scoring in double figures for the Nighthawks was Shannon Harrigan, who had 13 points and nine rebounds, while Tyland Crawford added 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
