HARRISBURGH, Pa. -- Bimosan Ghmire scored a pair of goals and Abdullah Al Maari gave two assists to help the Northern Virginia Community College soccer team to a 9-0 victory over Harrisburg Area Community College Saturday afternoon.
The 4-2-1 Nighthawks are back on the pitch Monday at NJCAA Region 20 foe Frederick at 5 p.m.
Esubalew Tenkolu got the NOVA offense started in the 6th minute when he was taken down inside box and awarded a penalty kick. It was Tenkolu's first penalty kick of the season and his third goal
Thirteen minutes later the Nighthawks scored once more, as Max Medrano pushed the NOVA lead to 2-0 on a goal that was assisted by Al Maari.
The Nighthawks were back on the attack in the 27th minute, but as Zyaire Phinizy was getting ready to play the ball, an HACC defender jumped in front of him and inadvertently scored an own goal.
Closing out the end of the opening half, Tony Singui beat the defense and had just the goalie beat, but near the box he was taken down by a sprinting defender and was awarded a penalty kick. Singui took advantage of the opportunity to give the Nighthawks a 4-0 lead
During second period action, NOVA scored three more goals by the 65th minute, as two of tallies were by Ghmire, who now has a team-high six on the year.
In the 72nd minute, the Nighthawks were again on the attack, but as the Hawks defense was attempting to clear the ball it crossed the line for a second own goal.
Closing out the scoring for NOVA was Abdullah Abdi, who beat the defense from the left side of the field.
