Soccer allows late goal

FRONT ROYAL, Va. – A late penalty kick was the difference, as the Northern Virginia Community College men's soccer team fell 3-2 Tuesday evening at USCAA foe Christendom.

The Nighthawks are now 1-3-0 this season and return to the pitch Saturday, Sept. 28 against Howard beginning at noon.

NOVA allowed two late first half goals, as Nick Cipolla earned his first start of the year between the pipes.  Cipolla made four stops on the day, one of his saves came in the first half, while his other three were in the second period.

Following halftime, Bryan Kanaan scored his second goal of the season in the 49th minute to make it a one goal contest. Roughly 13 minutes later, Ismael Ayala, who was making his first Nighthawks appearance scored the equalizer.

However, in the 78th minute the Nighthawks fouled the Crusaders in the box to give Christendom a penalty kick. The Crusaders took advantage of the opportunity and scored the match-winner.
