Dragons scorch Nighthawks

ANNANDALE – Ismael Ayala scored a pair of first half goals for the Northern Virginia Community College soccer team, but NJCAA Region 20 Division III foe Howard netted two second period goals to win 5-2 Friday afternoon.

The Nighthawks, who are 1-4-0 this season return to action Tuesday when they travel to Richard Bland for a 3 p.m. kickoff.

The Dragons netted three unanswered  goals in the contests first 21 minutes before Ayala hit paydirt off of a restart in the 27th minute. Ayala's shot hit the far right post and bounced in for his second tally of the season.

Ten minutes later, Ayala again answered the call for the Nighthawks when he put his second shot inside the net. This time Ayala went to the high post and past an outstretched Howard goalkeeper -- Darbouzeson Casseus.

Following the intermission, Howard scored its fourth goal of the day when Bradley Muma received the corner kick from Medrano inside the box.

In the final 18 minutes of play the Dragons put the icing on the cake as they beat the Nighthawks deep inside the attacking third .

Between the posts for NOVA, Emmanuel Vargas made 13 saves, which surpassed his previous career-high of 11 that was set at Hagerstown.
