ANNANDALE – For the eighth time in the last nine games, Mia Buchanon picked up a double-double, however the Northern Virginia Community College women's basketball team fell 79-39 to 14th ranked Bryant and Stratton Wednesday evening.
The Nighthawks finish the first half of the season at 2-10 and return to action Thursday, Jan. 24 against instate foe Thomas Nelson.
The Bobcats opened the game on an 11-0 run, but NOVA snuck back into the game with a 7-0 swing and was down 11-7 at the midway point of the first quarter. BSC, meanwhile, would respond with 7-4 to go up eight near the end of the period.
Following a Natasha Porter trifecta, which brought the score to 19-14, the Nighthawks would never draw any close.
NOVA, shot 1-of-17 during second quarter action, which allowed BSC to go into the locker room up 46-17. For the Nighthawks in the second 10 minutes, Buchanon pulled down eight of her game-high 19 boards.
During the second half, NOVA shot better from the field (8-of-34), but the Bobcats were just too much for the Nighthawks as they shot 48 percent (14-for-29) from the floor and out rebounded NOVA 26-19.
