Twenty-point scorers lead Nighthawks

NORTH EAST, Md. – Mia Buchanon and Ciarra Owen each scored 22 points to lead the Northern Virginia Community College women's basketball team to an 86-35 victory over Cecil Saturday afternoon in Region 20 Division II action.

The Nighthawks return to their home court Monday evening at 5 p.m. against Allegany for Sophomore Night.

Natasha Porter scored the first bucket of the afternoon for NOVA and the team never looked back as the Nighthawks built a 23-6 lead after one period thanks in part to a strong defensive effort. The NOVA defense caused fits for the Seahawks as the Nighthawks held Cecil scoreless for nearly eight minutes between the first and second periods.

During second half action, the Nighthawks continued their strong play as they outscored the Seahawks 41-20. Owen and Buchanon led NOVA's offense with 10 points apiece, while Porter added five third period tallies.
