ANNANDALE – Brittany Connatser led the Northern Virginia Community College volleyball team with 30 kills Saturday, as the Nighthawks defeated Region 20 Division II rival Garrett (25-20, 25-18, 25-14), but fell in straight sets to Monroe (14-25, 14-25, 12-25) and Richard Bland (25-27, 14-25, 20-25).

NOVA's record is now 11-12 this season, and plays Monday in Ernst Gymnasium against Allegany at 7 p.m.

Match 1 versus Monroe
The Nighthawks struggled offensively against the Mustangs, as NOVA hit -.120 and had just 14 team kills. Errors also haunted the Nighthawks, as they had 23 unforced errors. which includes four block errors.

Match 2 versus Richard Bland
During the opening set against the Statesmen, NOVA was led by Connatser, who had five kills and hit .500. The team, meanwhile, hit .211, but RBC hit .429 behind 17 kills to edge the Nighthawks 27-25.

NOVA came out flat during second set action, as the Nighthawks hit -.111, and had 10 unforced miscues.

In the final set, RBC and NOVA were going back and forth, as Bekah Jenne provided a service ace to make it 18-17 Statesmen. However, RBC answered back and finished the match off on a 7-3 swing to take the stanza and match.

Match 3 versus Garrett
The Nighthawks and Lakers went point-for-point midway through the opening set, as NOVA led 14-13. With the Nighthawks clinging to the one-point advantage, NOVA outscored Garrett 11-7 the rest way thanks in part to eight Nighthawks kills.

A Connatser kill gave NOVA a 13-point (18-5) cushion in the second set, but the Lakers closed their deficit to seven (19-12) moments later. Deveis Wooten ended Garrett's run, as her kill helped shifted the momentum, but to NOVA.

With the final set knotted at nine all, a Jenne ace and Connatser kill jump started the Nighthawks offense as they outscored the Lakers 16-5 to win the match.
