Regular season capped off with victory

FREDERICK, Md. – Behind 17 kills from Brittany Connatser, the Northern Virginia Community College volleyball team swept (25-22, 25-19, 25-15) NJCAA Region 20 Division II foe Frederick Thursday evening to wrap up the regular season with a 14-12 mark.

Depending on how the weekend plays out, the Nighthawks could have a match up against the Cougars in the first round of the region tournament Friday, Nov. 2 at Southern Maryland.

NOVA jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set, but FCC stormed right back and held a 12-9 lead following an ace

The Nighthawks, however, used a 5-0 swing to retake the lead, as Sarah Abisourour capped the run off with one of her two aces on the evening.

NOVA though could not separate itself from FCC until late when Connatser hammed down a kill to spark a quick 3-1 set ending un.

The teams traded points in the second set until the Nighthawks gave themselves an 11-9 lead after another Connatser kill. That kill started a momentum shifting 8-1 run that was capped off on a Rachel Scott ace.

The Cougars opened the third and final set leading 3-0, but Connatser scored three of the next four NOVA points to jump on top 4-3.

The Nighthawks again could not hold on to the advantage, as the teams traded points until Lauren Havill sparked another NOVA run with a smack down that gave the Nighthawks a 9-8 lead. NOVA then put any doubt away of a possible fourth set with an 11-3 run that made it 20-11.
