ANNANDALE – Brittany Connatser led the Northern Virginia Community College volleyball team with a match-high 19 kills, but Hagerstown rebounded after the first set to win in four (25-18, 23-25, 19-25, 6-25) on Tuesday in NJCAA Region 20 Division II action.
The Nighthawks have now lost five straight and look to rebound Friday at Garrett beginning at 6 p.m.
Ivanna Jorge served nine straight times early in the opening set to help NOVA jump out on top 13-3. Jorge had three aces during that streak and Connatser added one of her kills during the run.
However, the Hawks crawled back into the set and got within six (21-15) before Jorge added another ace and Connatser hammered down another one of her six kills in the opening stanza to finish off Hagerstown.
NOVA was down 4-0 early in the second, but got back into it and led 10-9 after Elena Swale smacked down a kill. The Hawks though got back on track and would lead 20-17, but NOVA used a 6-2 run to shift the momentum.
With a chance to go up two sets NOVA couldn't finish off the Hawks as a Nighthawks service error and two Hagerstown kills finished things off.
The Nighthawks could not find their offensive footing in the final two sets as they had just 10 kills and hit into 14 attack errors.
