Season closes for Nighthawks

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Deveis Wooten had her first double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough for the Northern Virginia Community College volleyball team, as it fell in four sets (25-19, 17-25, 24-26, 22-25) to Montgomery in the semifinals of the NJCAA Region 20 Division II Tournament.

The Nighthawks close out the season at 15-13 and return to action in August 2020.

A trio of Nighthawks led NOVA offensively in the opening set, as Mollie Simon, Brittany Connatser and Wooten all had three kills. However, it was the Nighthawks ability to stay away from miscues that helped them to a win, as they had just two unforced errors.

However, in the final three stanzas, the Nighthawks weren't able to stay out of trouble as they committed 21 unforced errors. NOVA's offense, meanwhile, kept the team in the match, as the unit smack down 53 kills and hit .252.

The Nighthawks offense was led by Connatser, who finished with a team-high 19 kills, while Ivanna Jorge had a career-best 12 kills, which was her first double-digit kill match. Wooten, meanwhile, had 11 kills, 13 digs and two aces wrap up her career with NOVA.

The offensive combo of Connatser and Wooten finished their Nighthawks career with a combined 994 kills more than any two who played both seasons together at NOVA. Connaster and Wooten surpassed Arianna Gore and Kiana O'Neal, who closed out their careers with 951 kills following the 2013 season.
