Nighthawks finish ninth at Hood


FREDERICK, Md. – In the final regular season race of the 2018 campaign Saturday, the Northern Virginia Community College cross country team was ninth on a wet and windy morning at the 6k Hood College Open.

The Nighthawks were led by Kmaljeet Athwal, who finished 11th , in a time of 24 minutes, 18.20 seconds, while Ashley Mazer (23:14.10) of Salisbury won the individual title. Salisbury also won the team championship as well as besting second place Catholic by 24 points.

Behind Athwal was Ashlianne Shigley (28:42.9) and Berith Austin (30:33.40), who were 69th and 81st respectively. 

Rounding out the NOVA group was Dana Fusco (35:06.90) and Lauren Proctor (39.00.20) as the newcomers were 94th and 100th Saturday morning.
