ANNANDALE – Four Northern Virginia Community College student-athletes were named to the NJCAA All-Academic Team Friday.
To be eligible for the for this honor, student-athletes must have accumulated at least 45 semester credit hours or 60 quarter credit hours with a minimum of a 3.60 grade-point average.
The NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards program has annually recognized the academic success of the association's student-athletes since the program's inception in 1983.
Naiomi Green was the Nighthawk who had the highest GPA among the four NOVA student-athletes honored. Green was named to the NJCAA All-Academic Second Team after earning a GPA between 3.80-3.99.
A pair of cross country runners were named to the third team, as Kmaljeet Athwal and Berith Austin took home those honors. Andrew Bailey, who was a member of the NOVA soccer team also garnered a third team award, as the trio had a GPA between 3.60-3.79.
“These four student-athletes worked hard on the field and in the classroom, and their efforts show” said Director of Athletics Steve Mrowka. “Every student-athlete on the All-Academic Team deserves to be recognized.”
Over the last four years over 20 Nighthawk student-athletes have been named to the NJCAA’s All-Academic Team.
